CSS Interurban #3 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend
Lawrence H. Boehning caught Chicago, South Shore & South Bend interurban #3 at the end terminus at South Bend. Built by Pullman in 1926, this was a 56 seat smoker car. This is a scan I made from Boehning's original negative.

Tom Beckett General I recall riding Amtrak's Lake Shore back in the late 70's, and for a few miles the ex NYC ran next to the South Shore. I think this station was still in service then, though I did not get the chance to ride there. Now they terminate at the South Bend airport, which, in today's world, is probably more useful. Cool set of photos. 2/9/2024 4:22:59 AM
