Chicago, South Shore & South Bend ROW
Title:  Chicago, South Shore & South Bend ROW
Description:  This is looking north along the CSS row froma walkway just north of the Roosevelt Road bridge. THere has been major changes in the trackage at the point. Several of the IC lines to the left are gone and new passenger platforms to the right have been added for CSS passengers. An enclosed stairway has been built right where Lawrence Boehning took this image in the summer of 1957. I scanned it from his original negative. CSS interurban #15 can be seen below at the old passenger platform.

Title:  CSS Interurban #26, Freight Motor #901 & Line car 1100
Description:  This is an interested trio of Chicago, South Shore & South Bend items caught at the Michigan City Shops area. To the left corner is CSS interurban #26, one of the Pullman cars built in 1926. In the center of the photo is CSS freight motor #901. This electric steeplecab was built by Baldwin/Westinghouse in 1929 as IC #10001. The CSS acquaired it in 1941. Finally to the the far right is CSS maintenance of way line car #1100 rebuilt from an indiana Railroad interurban car. This is a photo from the orignal negative that Lawrence H. Boehning took over 67 years ago!

CSS Express Bagage #503 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend
Title:  CSS Express Bagage #503 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend
Description:  To the far right is Chicago, South Shore & South Bend express baggage car with the slogan "Fast Emergency Package Service". It was built by St. Louis Car in 1926 as Indiana Railroad combine #375 but later picked up and converted by the CSS shops into the baggage car. Strangely, it now resides as a static display under shelter in Scottsburg, IN. This southern Indiana city is far from the car's original CSS home. To the left of it is CSS interurban #33. This is a scan I did from Lawrence H. Boehning's original negative.

Chicago, South Shore & South Bend ROW East
Title:  Chicago, South Shore & South Bend ROW East
Description:  This is an eastern view of the CSS right of way in Gary, IN. I can't quite figure out exactly where this was taken. Could be that this area was changed when the Adam Benjamin Transportation Center was built next to the trakcs. I scanned this image from the original negative taken by Lawrence H. Boehning.
