Abandoned right of way, looking south
Title:  Abandoned right of way, looking south
Description:  This abandoned right of way runs north and south along Illinois Rt 1. This view is just north of the I-64 interchange (close to the tall light pole in the background). The rails have been gone for several years and nature is reclaiming this former rail line.

Abandoned right of way
Title:  Abandoned right of way
Description:  Believe it or not, there used to be tracks running through this area. This is a photo taken at a former grade crossing site, just a couple miles south of Grayville, IL; there was a sign saying "Calvin" so I used that location instead. Tracks were removed several years ago and nature has reclaimed just about all of the former right of way.

Abandoned right of way, looking west
Title:  Abandoned right of way, looking west
Description:  This view looks west at the abandoned right of way in Griffin, Indiana, a town just east of the Illinois state line/Wabash River. Tracks were removed several years ago. I don't recall which line actually went through here.

Abandoned ROW looking south
Title:  Abandoned ROW looking south
Description:  This picture looks south towards Poseyville, IN on 12-22-2015. I don't know the heritage of this former line but according to Abandoned Rails dot com, this may have been part of the Owensville Terminal, ex-IC/ICG, exx-Peoria, Decatur, and Evansville line. No idea as to the history, though. At one time boxcars were stored on this trackage, IINM, but the rails have been gone for several years. Note the cut in the roadbed--someone had to move an awful lot of dirt to make that passageway!

Passageway through now abandoned ROW
Title:  Passageway through now abandoned ROW
Description:  This is another view of the cut, going through the former roadbed of a former railroad near Poseyville, IN on 12-22-2015. Farmland exists on both sides of the former roadbed, so there was probably a need to get access to and from this field. Take a look at the depth of the roadbed, though!

Cut through roadbed on former ROW
Title:  Cut through roadbed on former ROW
Description:  This was about as close as I could get to the old roadbed near Poseyville, IN on 12-22-2015. I was standing on the I-64 bridge looking almost straight down at the old roadbed. I was amazed at the depth of the old roadbed and the size of the cut through the roadbed.

Ex-B&O ROW, looking north
Title:  Ex-B&O ROW, looking north
Description:  This view, looking north, shows part of the former B&O lines in eastern Illinois. The roadbed, or what's left of it, is under that brush somewhere! Mill Shoals is a couple of miles north of here.

Former B&O ROW
Title:  Former B&O ROW
Description:  This view, looking north, shows part of the former B&O lines in eastern Illinois. My best guess is that the ROW was located between the two stands of trees. Or, it may be parallel to the yellow flowers (I honestly don't remember). Mill Shoals is a couple of miles north of here.
