Title:
Washington-Western 72
Description:
This 4-6-0 was photographed at the Standard Gravel Co. pit at Clifton, Louisiana. It is Alco-Schenectady 54484, built in January 1914 as New Orleans-Great Northern 72. It was rebuilt with a larger Baldwin boiler (XO-14350) at Bogalusa in 1928, and was subsequently Gulf Mobile & Northern 72, Gulf Mobile & Ohio 72, Gaylord Container 72 and finally Washington-Western 72. After its removal from Clifton, it was cosmetically restored and put on display nearby at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds in Franklinton, Louisiana.
