The "horseshoe", "new and old locations"
Since many of the photos contained in this and subsequent albums were taken in this area, this map can provide some idea of the locality. Milepost 128 is indicated at the right side of the map and the "famous" MP 129 is at center. The double stone arch is the first river crossing west of MP 128. At the top of the horseshoe, at Bench Mark 233.3 (elev in meters) is the location known as "the art colony". The origional R.O.W., known as the "old location", is traced by the dotted red line. Origional construction stone arch bridges still stand where it crosses the river. The heavy, black dotted lines show the boundaries between Chester in Hampden county (right side of map), Middlefield in Hampshire county occupying the upper left, and Becket in Berkshire county ocuppying the lower left. The Westfield River is the boundary between Becket and Middlefield from the point in the upper right to a spot between Milepost 133 and 134.

Ryan Parent General Thanks for posting this Carl. The horseshoe is great. It allows you to shoot westbound trains in perfect light in the morning at MP 129. 3/20/2007 6:56:12 PM
