L&N E8A 795
Louisville & Nashville E8A units 795 and 785 were being moved by New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal SW8 number 1. The E-units had come in earlier that morning on the PAN-AMERICAN and they would be heading back north at 5:15PM. With the beginning of Amtrak on 1 May, this train was discontinued and left for the very last time exactly three weeks after this photo was taken. Later in 1971 the 795 was sold to Amtrak, renumbered 225, subsequently renumbered 442 and retired in 1981. This photo was taken from the tender of Southern Railway 2-8-0 722.
