Looking northeast over the south end of the CN, former SOO, yard at Neenah, WI, on 23 May '20. One reason for this photograph is the Caterpillar and John Deere tracked vehicles which have been loaded onto flatcars, or are waiting to be loaded, for Michels Materials. The tracks at the far right are remnants of the former C&NW main line and yard. This particular remnant of the main line has been reduced to a spur. The CN depot/yard office is the gray building to the left. The tan 4- or 5-story facility behind and to the right of that is 5K Fibres, 1111 Henry St., based in Greenville, WI. They purchased the former Kimberly-Clark Corp. (K-C) Neenah Nonwovens Facility ca. Apr. '20. The silver silos beyond and to the right of that belong to Galloway Co., Inc., an active rail customer at the end of this portion of the former C&NW main line. The facility was started in 1927 at 601 S. Commercial St. as Neenah Milk Products, Galloway took it over in 1955. The facility has been expanded over the old right-of-way since the rails were pulled up. The clock tower of the once impressive 1888 city hall building, intersection of S. Commercial St. and W. Doty St., is partially visible on the horizon above the depot/yard office. To either side of that, some of downtown Neenah's bland, unimaginative, modern buildings, posing as architecture, can be seen. I am not a fan of modern architecture, obviously.
