New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board 4-wheel electric locomotive No. 65 was pushing some empty cars across Oak Street and Leake Avenue onto the interchange with the Illinois Central and the New Orleans Public Belt. This little train had just run down the middle of Eagle Street for eight blocks from the city’s water treatment plant. The 65 had been built by General Electric in 1910 as serial number 1985 for the Gulfport and Mississippi Coast Traction Co. and was purchased by the NO&SWB in the 1920’s. The Water Board ended electric operations in June 1959. |
