PRR 6171, J-1, 1956
Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Tom Hall that was taken in Indianapolis, Indiana, on 7 October 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6171, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1944 and retired in October of 1957 after just 13 years of revenue service. Looks to me like it's being serviced at the ash pit following another successful run.
