| Long before a GP30 or GP38 carried the number 829, this 1939 Alco-Schenectady built 4-8-4 Northern type locomotive had the homor. Specs - serial #69170, class FEF-2, massive 77" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 24.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 465,000 lb, tractive effort of 63,611 lb. The loco was "vacated" in May of 1957. The photo is by B.F. Cutler but no date or location was given for it. |
