On 23 January 1961 Kansas City Southern E6A number 24 was showing off its rakish lines, customized portholes and trainphone antenna at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The locomotive had recently come in on train 1 – the southbound SOUTHERN BELLE – and would be here until leaving at 10 p.m. on train 2. The 24 had been built in January 1942 as KCS 4, was renumbered that December and was sold for scrap at Shreveport in November 1964. |
