#4483. Here is an original 35mm color slide by David Simmons that was taken in Hamburg, New York, on 24 September 2006. Shown here is ex-Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4483, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during May of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1931, and retired in August of 1957 after 34 years of faithful service. For several years, this locomotive was stored in Northumberland. Then it was restored cosmetically and put on display in front of the Westinghouse Air Brake plant in Wilmerding. And then it was purchased by the Western New York Railway Historical Society and moved to Hamburg where it now sits, exposed to the elements. It's the last PRR "Decapod" on Planet Earth! |
