Great action shot of this 1943 Alco-Schenectady built 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotive heading up a crack southbound passenger train. The smoke deflector "ears" and sleek side give the loco a European styling. Unfortunately the entire class was replaced by diesels in 1952-53 after barely 10 years of service. Specs - serial #70142, K-62 class, 24.5 x 32 cylinders, 75" drivers, a boiler pressure of 285 psi, weighed 470,000 pounds and had a tractive effort of 62,040 pounds.
