A rather unique piece near the southern end of the museum's yard. This unit originally started out life as a Fairbanks-Morse built H-24-66 Trainmaster for the Wabash Railroad, number 552. Converted into a slug after the Norfolk & Western acquisition of the Wabash, the unit would work through the Norfolk Southern merger in the early 1980s. The Reading Company once operated similar F-M built units, making it a fitting display at this museum of Reading heritage. Perhaps a future restoration back to a full locomotive is in order. |
