Off to Valpo  Contributor's Pick!
The late 70s found a wide variety of commuter services in the Chicago area. Some, like the BN or Northwesterns, were extensive. Others were vestigal remains of larger plans, and a few were always small. One of the smaller ones was the single trip on the ex Pennsy out to Valparaiso Ind, which Conrail inherited from PC. It ran with a pair of GP 9s and some ex PRR P 70s, though after the EL Cleveland train quit in January 1977, the cars from that service came west and were added to the Valpo train. This is the way it looked in 1978, a pair of GPs and P 70s, seen leaving Union Station.
