Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1973. Shown here (L to R) are Penn Central engines #6076, #6161, and #6142. All were built by GM-EMD. #6076 is an SD40 built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in February of 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. #6161 and #6142 are SD45's built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in January of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower each. They're passing under the 4th Street Footbridge with a merchandise freight train and are about to climb the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Visible in the foreground is the two-track, west-facing signal bridge; the 7th Street Bridge is also visible in the distance. |
