EL U34CH #3359 - Erie Lackawanna  Contributor's Pick!
Sporting a rare paint scheme and marking, this GE unit was delivered to EL in March of 1971 (bldr #37937) during the Erie Lackawanna's impending collapse. Nice slide by Michael A. Tedesco.

Tom Beckett General These units were financed by NJ DOT, and were to be captive to the Hoboken commuter trains, though EL was not shy about borrowing them for a weekend turn to Binghamton or Buffalo. On at least one occasion, a set of them didn't make it back to Jersey by Monday morning, creating havoc at Suffern, and making for a lot of red faces on the EL. They were nice looking units, in the EL paint pattern, but with NJDOT colors. This would be the paint scheme for other units to come into the NJDOT stable later on, among them the ex CNJ GP7P's and GP40P's, and some ex PC E 8's. 4/14/2016 3:28:14 AM
