DGNO 1566  Contributor's Pick!
The soon to be DGNO 1566 undergoes painting at the open air diesel inspection pit in Mercer Yard into GWI orange and black. This GP15-1 was originally delivered to Chicago & Northwestern as CNW 4416 in June 1976 then worked for successor Union Pacific but was never renumbered due to a soon to be expiring lease. Although the lease officially expired on August 1, 1991 this unit wasn't officially retired until January 10, 1992 then moved to VMV in Paducah, Ky for owner GMAC Leasing until being sold to GATX. GATX would later place this unit on long term lease to California Northern as CFNR 105 but for the past several years has worked for Dallas, Garland, and Northeastern in full CFNR paint. After the GWI purchase of DGNO this unit was purchased from GATX and will now be known as DGNO 1566 wearing GWI orange and black. According to DGNO crews, the GP15-1 fleet are terrible pullers but at least this one will be nice looking.
