Jim Bruce General this engine was developed from the French SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francias) CC21000 class, and was converted from SNCF CC21000 CC21003 in 1976. it was built by Alsthom in 1974 as part of the CC21000 class of electrics first built in 1969 to a design based on SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francias)'s CC6500 class. they were powered under two voltages 1500V D.C. an 25 kV A.C. whereas the SNCF CC6500 could only be powered under 1500V D.C. the 4 of the type were built for SNCF in 1969 and 1974 and saw 25 years service on SNCF before being converted into the similar CC6500 class between 1995 an 1997. they were then only powered under 1500V D.C. as both types only ever ran South of Paris. the CC21000 was itself developed from the SNCF CC6500 class which is SNCF's most powerful electric and was first built in 1966. the last SNCF CC6500s were withdrawn in 2007 having seen 40+ years service, with some now preserved. they worked both passenger and freight trains. 9/25/2010 3:24:19 PM
