These are two of the five grain elevators along the east bank of the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Most of the this is Cargill's very large Terre Haute elevator, with the smaller Laplace Elevator Co. structure on the left. The tracks in the foreground are the Illinois Central Gulf's line from New Orleans (left) to Baton Rouge. The switch on the left is Cargill's loop track, and the yellow locomotive in the middle of the picture is a Baldwin S12, former New Orleans Public Belt 61. The bike on the right is the photographer's 1973 Kawasaki Z-1. |
