ICG Yard 5         
This was the sand house, and the metal framework supported the structure that was used to sand Illinois Central steam locomotives at Gulfport, Mississippi. It looked like it could still be used for sanding diesel locomoitves.

Robert Tomb General Thanks for posting, Michael. That is the lower portion of the original sand tower. The G&SI and IC never had a coal chute at Gulfport. The G&SI (and early IC) used a crane with a clamshell bucket and the later IC used a conveyor to unload coal into their tenders. 1/13/2010 12:33:34 PM
