Title: |
C&NW-Pullman "Floyd River" |
Description: |
Built in 1928 by Pullman. The following is from a sign on the car: The Floyd River is typical of heavyweight steel sleepers once operated throughout the nations railroad system by Chicagos Pullman Company. The car has 10 open sections, each with a facing pair of seats that form a lower berth at night, an upper berth folds down from the ceiling, with heavy curtains between the berths and center aisle to provide some privacy. The car also has one compartment with two berths, and a single drawing room. As a result of an anti-trust suit, all of Pullmans equipment was sold to 57 railroads in 1947. The Floyd River operated on C&NWs trains to the Twin Cities and other Midwestern points from 1948 until retirement in the 1960s. C&NW donated the car to IRM, and it arrived at Union in 1986, where it is under restoration. It is the only remaining C&NW heavyweight sleeping car. |
