The NKP and IC crossed each other about two blocks east of this location and they shared a station at the cross point at one time. It is long gone. A car bridge was built around 2000 using the former NKP ROW over the IC tracks below. |

Although odd to see at first, there is an Illinois Central Historical Society sign attached to the wall of the former Nickel Plate Road freighthouse. The IC and NKP shared a joint station just east of this NKP freighthouse location on Main Street. The ICHS took ownership of the NKP building and has preserved it for all. Only wish they would have a piece of NKP rolling stock to accompany the IC caboose and boxcar sitting to the side. |
