CP 2-8-0 #3403 - Canadian Pacific
Title:  CP 2-8-0 #3403 - Canadian Pacific
Description:  This is a strange photo. Although it appears to be an 0-8-0, it actually is a 2-8-0 Consolidation whose pilot truck was termporarily removed so it could serve as a yard switcher. An online source said that the pilot truck was kept handy to re-install just in case corporate inspectors would appear or road power was needed. The loco was built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in October of 1904 originally as CP 2-8-0 #1603 but was renumbered in September of 1912. The loco last into the 1950's. No date was given for the photo so an approximate one was used. James E. Platt photo

CP 2-8-0 #3407 - Canadian Pacific
Title:  CP 2-8-0 #3407 - Canadian Pacific
Description:  Although it appears as this is an 0-8-0 #3407 working the yard, it actually is still CP 2-8-0 #3407 just with its pilot truck removed temporarily. When the need arose for an 0-8-0 yard switcher, the Saskatoon shop would remove the front truck for use as a yard switcher. The tale goes that the shop would keep the pilot truck close by in case corporate inspectors would appear or if a road loco was needed. The loxo was built by the Montrail Locomotive Works in November of 1904 originally as CP 2-8-0 #1607 but later renumbred in October of 1912 to #3407. It lasted into the 1950's. This is a James Bowie photo.
