"Pennsy" Magazine, November-December 1960
Title:  "Pennsy" Magazine, November-December 1960
Description:  Here is a photo from an article entitled "The New Electrics." It was published originally in the November-December 1960 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 1. Photo Caption: "The E-44 produces 4,400 horsepower compared with the P-5's 3,750, and has greater acceleration or get-away ability. Another important feature is that the entire weight of the E-44 rests on its driving wheels, not partially on guiding trucks as in the P-5. This gives the new locomotive greater adhesion, which means less wheel slippage with correspondingly less wear on wheels and rails." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4400, an E-44 built by General Electric in October of 1960 and rated at 4,400 horsepower. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded.

Title:  Class unit
Description:  By number or by style, the electrics had class, though its hard to say much for style on a unit that was known as a "brick." Still, they did have an aura of raw power when rolling down the ex Pennsy main at speed that was unmatched. This one is at Linden, seen from the southbound Crescent.
