According to Mr. Robert Hess, "This photo was taken on October 20, 1957, during a steam excursion sponsored by the Branford Electric Railway Association. No. 612 replaced a GG1 which handled the train from Penn Station, NY to South Amboy, NJ. The train then proceeded over the New York & Long Branch RR to Sea Girt, then the Freehold branch to Jamesburg, and finally the Amboy branch returning to South Amboy, where a GG1 took over again" for the return journey to New York's Penn Station.
