BO 0-8-0 #614 |
Description: |
The photographer of this badly deteriorating photo identifies this as a 1928 Baldwin built 0-8-0 switcher. However, Chuck Zeiler offered an accurate history of this loco. Built by Alco-Richmond in January of 1906, this loco started as B&O 2-8-0 #2673. Original specs - - class E-27, 62" drivers, 205 psi boiler pressure, 22x30" cylinders, engine weight of 208,500, tractive effort of 40,800 lb. In 1925, the loco was rebuilt at Mt Clare Shops into an 0-8-0 yard switcher. New specs - renumbered #614, reclassified as L-2, 62" drivers, 207 psi boiler pressure, 25 1/2x30" cylinders, engine weight of 221,000 lb, tractive effort of 55,360 lb. The loco was scrapped in September of 1954. No location or date was given for the photo. Thanks Chuck for your help with this one. It is very much appreciated! |

Title: |
BO 0-8-0 #1695 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
Sometime between 1923-29, the B&O Shops rebuilt an older 2-8-0 Consolidation loco into this beefy 0-8-0 yard switcher. Max Miller caught this brute in the Garrett, Indiana, yard as it posed for the camera. |

Title: |
BO 0-8-8-0 #7035 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
Although the 0-8-8-0 pusher locos on the B&O roster proved "slow and complicated", they were nevertheless powerful brutes who helped move long drags of coal from the mines. B&O 0-8-8-0 #7035 was built by Alco-Schenectady in January of 1912 as BO #2416 but was renumbered BO #7035 and reclassed as LL-1. Unlike several other sister locos who were upgraded to a 2-8-8-0 EL-4 class, #7035 remained unchanged until meeting the scrapper's torch in October of 1949 after nearly 37 years of service. Original specs - class, O-1, 56' drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, compound high pressure cylinders of 26x41" and low pressure cylinders of 32x56", engine weight of 461,000 lb, tractive force of 107,400 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
