Description:  Burlington Northern Railroad class ARS3 4064 in the dead line at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1953 as SP&S RS3 79 (c/n 80495), it became BN ARS3 4064 sometime after the March 2, 1970 merger, retired by the BN during April 1980. The frame is stencilled: SM-8-77. This locomotive and about a dozen more of Alco lineage were parked for a couple of weeks on the most southern track between Clyde and Cicero along Ogden Avenue. There was a fence on the other side of these locomotives. It was a challenge getting this photo.

Description:  Alco RS3 number 4068, strangely coupled to an F9B, 825. The RS3 was built in June 1953 for Great Northern as its 231. Passed to SPS in April 1959 as its 83, then absorbed by BN as 4068. Retired in 1980, it then passed to the Spencerville and Elgin Railroad (SPEG) and was scrapped in Ohio City, OH in November 1996. Te F9B was new to Northern Pacific as 7006B.

This locomotive was built as Great Northern RS3 231 in June 1953 (c/n 80500) and was sold to the Spokane Portland & Seattle on April 1, 1959, becoming SP&S 83. It became BN ARS-3 4068 and was retired August 18, 1980, sold to Chrome Crankshaft on September 8, 1980. Note the dual headlights, the lower one having been painted over.
