CTA 2129
Title:  CTA 2129
Description:  Chicago Transit Authority 2129 at Pulaski Road in Chicago, Illinois on October 25, 1964, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This train was a CERA fan trip, seen on the ramp from the elevated to ground level. Once on the ground, the track made a 180 degree turn and headed back under the elevated track. There was a shop building on the other side of Lake Street. To reach the shops, the train would coast across Lake Street and into the shops as there was no third rail or trolley wire to power the train across the street. If the train didn't make it across, the CTA had 'stingers', wooden poles with a contact on one end of each pole and a cable between the poles. One pole would be touched to a power source (3rd rail) and the other pole would be touched to the third rail pickup shoe, effectively, jumper cables.
