Description:  Here is page six of an eight-page article by Harry T. Sohlberg entitled "Horseshoe Curve." It was published originally in the March 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 33. Top Photo: Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3733 and #1339. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #3733 was built during February of 1920 and retired in April of 1956. #1339 was built during April of 1918 and retired in February of 1956. They are pulling an eastbound passenger train around the Horseshoe Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia. Note the illustration of an inclined plane and a two-sectioned boat on the Allegheny Portage Railroad (1834-1854).

Description:  Here is page seven of a seven-page article by Harry T. Sohlberg entitled "Horseshoe Curve." It was published originally in the November 1941 issue of "Mutual Magazine," page 26. (This is actually a reprint of an article published in the March 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 28-35.) Partial Caption: "No. 24 slips downgrade on one of the inside tracks. No. 24 is an afternoon maid-of-all-work passenger train from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3733 and #1339. Description:  Mann. Here is a photo by Wm. J. Pontin. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5466 and #3733. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" steam locomotives. #5466 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in August of 1956, while #3733 was constructed in Juniata in February of 1920 and retired in April of 1956. Note the three unidentified Mechanics, hard at work on #3733! The exact date and the location are not recorded. (Gift from Brad Mann.)

Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #1361 was built in May of 1915, and was enshrined for 30 years at the Horseshoe Curve before being refurbished for railfan excursions in 1987. #3733 was built in February of 1920 and retired in April of 1956.
