Heavies on The Point
Title:  Heavies on The Point
Description:  The new 2013 UP gevos are 8 tons heavier then the standard es44ac and were ordered specifically to be assigned to the I-5 corridor to help fix the problem of stalling underpowered trains on the hill South of Oakridge. At only a few moths old, these two are a testament to how hard it was for SP to keep their power clean when they ran the show.

Description:  This was the original Cascade line until SP re-routed it to the oher side of the river (visible between the trees) in 1952 during the creation of the Lookout Reservoir, during the Winter months when the water is low the old grade becomes visible.

Title:  Small Creek Bridge on Now-Underwater Abandoned Grade
Description:  This was the original line until 1952 when the Lookout Reservoir was created and the line was re-located by SP to the South shore (visible next to Highway 58 in the distance). The old grade is completely underwater and cannot be seen in the Summer months.

Description:  This was definitely the catch of the day on my relatively short Memorial Day visit to Eugene Yard, this was quite a rainbow for 2014-era Union Pacific as these days the vast majority of locomotives on trains here are a made up of a pure set of Armour Yellow, Harbor Mist, Red, White and Blue ES44ACs and SD70 variants, but on this day the lash up seen here definitely broke the mold (and there was a second patched SP AC44 in the yard too!). This is located at the South end of Eugene Yard, lash ups of power are often kept here while they await their next asignment. These units were built, from left to right: 2008, 1996, 2007, 1995, 2011.
