Description:  The old and the new. Behind the rather fresh-looking blue MP15 is the tiny former Stelco Steel switcher #615, originally built in 1951; painstakingly rebuilt in 2021 to work this yard switching metal pipe rack cars. It didn't last long.

Description:  TRRY 108 at Port Robinson Road, and a little further south at Daimler Parkway grade crossing, as the train headed back to Welland after working in St. Catharines. Totally my lucky catch of the month - I had just finished taking pics of the cargo ship ALGOMA DISCOVERY when I heard the train approaching, and got there just in time.

Description:  Even the cruncher claw wrecking machine has the day off from smashing old Canada Wheat Board grain hoppers into shreds. The bones and wheel sets can be seen strewn around in the background. There are plenty more derelict hoppers where these came from, with long strings of cars on several storage tracks in the area - all with a date to see the 'cruncher'. Action will become so frantic, two more crunchers will soon be added to join in to get the job done.

Description:  The sun popped out on my second pass by at the Trillium Engine yard, so I snapped a few pics from across the yard, looking northwest from the gated yard entrance. Big Red is rumbling quietly in the cold, while the two black ALCOs are kept nice and toasty by the fuel oil preheat system.

I casually kept pace and followed the train north up to Port Robinson, and when it didn't stop at the yard, I knew it would wind through Niagara Falls, and come back westbound, right into the sunshine at Garner Road...so the chase was on.

Description:  Garner Road grade crossing. CN Train 422 rounds the bend at the top of the Niagara Escarpment, about to descend the steep grade down to the Welland Canal, St. Catharines, and beyond. Lucky for me, the train was on the north track, which is generally used by GO Transit and AMTRAK passenger trains - the north track for CN freight.
