This loco was one of six transferred from the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton after Canadian National bought the DTI in 1984. It was built by EMD in June of 1968 as DTI #400. Its 16 cylinder diesel engine produced 3,000 h.p. and is coupled to a AC generator, driving standard blomberg truck. The loco could generate 50,000 lb in tractive effort. Starting in 1989, the Grand Trunk Western began a major rebuild project. This project resulted in 36 GP9r's. The only visible difference between the GP9 and the GP9r is these units all have a low front hood. Specs - EMD, 3/1957, nee-CV 4552, 1750 hp produced, 65 mph max speed, engine weight of 248,000 lb, tractive effort of 47,000 lb. An unknown photographer took the photo. |
