Description:  Another big, blue sky shot of the CP/CN freight transfer, approaching the Miller Road overpass on the CP Hamilton Subdivision. The Welland Canal tunnel is just ahead. This will be the last shot of the day with the clouds about to take over for good. But I did luck out twice this morning on both of the CP freight shots - with the sun coming out literally just in the nick of time to light up the train at both locations. That has NEVER happened before.

Description:  It's not too often you can catch a train going one way, and then catch it again coming back the other way - without a long wait. But here's CN Train 562 - heading west on the CP Hamilton Subdivision approaching the Welland Canal tunnel. After an exchange of freight cars at CP Welland Yard, Train 562 will come back this way in about a half-hour, then wind its way back onto the CN Stamford Sub at Brookfield Wye.

Description:  After catching both CN Train 422, and the AMTRAK Maple Leaf at Merriton, really kicking up the fresh snow, I headed south towards Port Robinson, and on the way came upon a beautiful sight! Trillium Railways ALCO TRRY 1859 (an RS18 built in 1958 by Montreal Locomotive Works, Alco's Canadian subsidiary), switching a single tank car near the Thorold Beer Store.

(A side note...this is AMTK 2, which kind of intrigued me, being such a low number, and I thought it might perhaps be one of Amtrak's first purchases of this type of locomotive, first built by GE starting in 1992. This one turns out to have been built in 1996, so it does look like it is very likely from Amtrak's first order).

Description:  Delicious Trillium Railways ALCO 1859 switches a single tank car on the old street running tracks in Thorold. I was able to get a few nice pics as the ALCO coupled onto this tanker, and headed around the big bend at the Thorold Beer Store before disappearing on a long dead end spur that now serves just one customer.
