Housatonic Railroad Train NX-11 rolls toward the old Canaan Union Station for another cut of loaded hoppers from the Canaan Lime Plant after dropping off the last cut in the Canaan Yard. The motive power for this train is ex-Bangor & Aroostook GP7U #22 and ex-Conrail GP35M #3600, which is currently leading the train over the Main Street Crossing.

NX-12 at Pittsfield
Description:
After a failed attempt of chasing NX-12 northbound and nearly two hours of waiting in the hot sun, we were delighted to see Housatonic Railroad Train NX-12 passing the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Amtrak Station on the CSX Berkshire Subdivision, southbound en-route to Canaan, Connecticut, with GP35M #3600 and GP35 #3604 as power. The Engineer was also friendly enough to give us a nice wave despite the fact he looked very hot and tired.

Housatonic Railroad Train NX-12 slowly rolls past Building #3 of the Monument Mills in the railroads namesake town, Housatonic, Massachusetts, with Monument Mountain providing a nice backdrop. NX-13X in Canaan
Description:
Upon arrival in Canaan, Connecticut, NX-12 underwent a crew and symbol change, with the trains crew change complete and new symbol of NX-13X, the two Electro-Motive "Geeps" begin cutting out empty lime hoppers and boxcars in the Canaan Yard. Soon NX-13X and its new crew will pull out of Canaan for New Millford, Connecticut with four loaded centerbeams destined for a lumber yard in New Millford. The new crew was even friendlier as I got a wave nearly every time the train passed over the Main Street crossing during their switching moves.

On a dreary April 3rd, the Housatonic Railroad Companys NX-11 works the North Canaan (Connecticut) Yard and transload facility, powered by HRRC #22, an EMD GP7u originally built as a GP7 in 1952 for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, it was later purchased by the Bangor & Aroostook, which then became the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic, it was sold to the Housatonic Railroad Company in 2014 and has since remained the main power for NX-11s road and switching operations.

The Housatonic Railroad Companys newest locomotive, ex-MMA #22, ex-BAR #22, nee-ATSF #2722, shoves twelve empties, en route to the Minerals Technology lime plant east of the village, past Canaan Union Station, once the meeting point of the New York, New Haven & Hartford and Central New England Railroads. Canaan Union Station is currently undergoing restoration, the old platform has been mostly removed, new drainage has been added, concrete piers for a new deck have been poured and contractors are currently in the process of replacing windows.

Description:
Despite the Montreal, Maine & Atlantics attempt at covering the Bangor & Aroostook lettering, three years of sitting outdoors and rolling under limestone loaders on the Housatonic Railroad have done a decent job removing the patching on this ex-MMA, ex-BAR, nee-ATSF low hood Electro-Motive GP7u. Now with its heritage showing nearly in full, HRRC #22 works NX-11 on yet another run to switch the Minerals Technology lime plant in Canaan, Connecticut.

A General Motors Electro-Motive Division GP7u, built in 1952 as a GP7 for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, now belonging to the Housatonic Railroad Company as their #22, shoves six loads of lime down the south leg of the Canaan Wye. The train will hold off of the main for road job NX-12 to arrive at Union Depot, NX-11 will then add its six cars to NX-12s consist, before NX-12 departs for Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

With a trio of non-turbocharged, dynamic braking equipped Electro-Motive General Purpose "Geep" units as power, the crew of NX-12 throttles up #3601 as they approach the Sand Road crossing south of the village of Canaan, Connecticut with forty-one cars from the previous days NX-11 in tow. Once at Canaan Union Depot, NX-12s power will disconnect and wait for the crew of NX-11 to add six cars to their consist before making the run to Pittsfield, Massachusetts to interchange with CSX.

Housatonic Railroad NX-12 Over Taconic Avenue
Description:
An unusually long train of forty-seven cars meant that EMD GP35 #3601 had to assist GP35 #3604 and GP35M #3600 with road job NX-12, which the two units are usually more than able to haul on their own. En route from Canaan, Connecticut to the CSX Transportation interchange in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, NX-12 races along the elevated section of track in downtown Great Barrington, Massachusetts leading up to the Taconic Avenue Rail Bridge and the restored Great Barrington Depot.

Work on reconstructing the Park Street Bridge over the Housatonic River pauses when workers raise their heads to view the Housatonic Railroad Companys Canaan, Connecticut to Pittsfield, Massachusetts road job as it rolls into the old mill town of Housatonic, Massachusetts. This train, originally started by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad as "New Haven Division Train Twelve", or NX-12, consisted of forty-seven cars and had EMD GP35 #3601 leading GP35 #3604 and GP35M #3600 on this fine Spring morning.
