Album Info:I like shortlines the best, and years ago I started keeping a list of all the ones I hit. This album is intended to be the picture record of my baglist. I'm picking the one picture that epitomizes each line, as far as I'm concerned. I owe a lot of this to G.M. McDonald's publication "The Short Line". In pre-internet days, TSL is how I found many a shortline. Months & year are good, day is usually approximate, and not all pictures are up to standards-fair warning.

Description:  This shot is crap, but all I have. I was in town working a job, and had no chance to get away during the day. I shot this using my rental car as a 'tripod' and a street light. Bitterly cold night with a gale-force wind which kept shaking the camera. Out of 10 or so pictures, this is the only one even close.

Description:  This is the Denver & Rio Grande RR (DRGR), operating both freight and passenger service over the old DRGW Creede branch. They are actually a Class 3 common carrier shortline, but most revenue comes from tourist trains through the Rio Grande River valley. Latest update (December 2015), DRGR has given up and shut down. Line to be sold or abandoned, all equipment up for sale.

Description:  First encounter with Progressive Rail. This is PGRs pretty obscure operation in Faribault. The unnumbered 45 tonner looked like it hadn't moved in a while, but there were several cars on the line that had obviously just come in. Not sure what they are using for power.

Description:  New Jersey is about as far off my normal beaten path as it gets, but I had a project out there only a few miles from the Pureland Industrial Park where SMS has their home base. I got very lucky and got a guided tour this day (doesn't hurt to have ties in the railroad industry...). SMS is a real class act, great people and a first class operation.
