Album Info:In November 2006 I moved to Rogers Ark, then six months later to Siloam Springs, on the Heavener Sub. Since then, I have taken a lot of photos on the KCS in my new home town. This album contains anything I took between Davidson Rd, MP 226.5, and Elm St, approximately MP 233.

Unusual DPU
Title:  Unusual DPU
Description:  We caught a southbound grain train while out and about today-see the notes on the head end. On the rear of this 98 car train was a DPU, not unusual, most of these trains have them. What was unusual is the BNSF power making it up. These trains almost always have KCS power fore and aft. So this was different.

Just the right moment
Title:  Just the right moment
Description:  We were out for a ride today. When headed north, well cross the tracks at Davidson Rd on the way toward Gentry, since signal 226-5 is just south of the crossing. Today when we went across, it was green. I swung back around to catch this southbound 98 car grain train behind an original SD 70ACe repaint. KCS and CP just announced a merger. Get these while you can, before they go the same way all those ATSF warbonnets went after the BNSF merger.

Description:  On return from our short day trip, we were coming back down Lincoln, when I looked over and saw a northbound just getting to Lake Frances Rd. I did a quick flip, and was able to beat him to Tahlequah St. A pair of UP units, and one BNSF lead 125 empty AEPX cars.

Rolling up to the team track
Title:  Rolling up to the team track
Description:  I was heading out to Wal Mart for a grocery pick up-I have not been in the store in over a year, we let them bring the stuff out to the car-and just as I was getting to Lake Frances Drive, I looked over to see a northbound cresting the grade up from Watts. I knew if I hustled, I could get him at one of several locations in town. I opted for the team track area, since it was currently unoccupied by set out gons from MOW projects, and the light was right for a 1000 shot. Hes snaking through the curve past Main St and the old station with 100 empty grain hoppers, approaching Lincoln Av.

Big tree
Title:  Big tree
Description:  I was out dropping recyclables the other day, and went up to Davidson Rd to see if the signal was lit. Sure enough, flashing yellow. I waited, which yielded this shot of a southbound TXUX train passing the big bare tree in the adjacent field. In another couple of weeks, the leaves will be out, green in contrast to all the different colors of the trains.

Rolling to a meet
Title:  Rolling to a meet
Description:  It was 80 degrees last Friday, and I was out washing the car when I heard a northbound blowing for State Line Rd as he worked up from Watts. I finished up what I was doing and headed out, to find him into the siding, but holding. I went up into town to hopefully catch the meet. The northbound didnt pull up far enough to get the shot, but I did get the southbound M train splitting the signals at Tahlequah St, rolling 75 cars toward Shreveport

Rolling to a meet
Title:  Rolling to a meet
Description:  I had gone up to the recycle station to do my bit to save the planet, when I saw a set of headlights to the north as I crossed Lincoln Av. A closer look showed that the train was stopped up near Country Club, which meant he was waiting north of town, so as not to block crossings while he waited for the northbound to get in range. I camped out at Tahlequah St; ten minutes later, heres the southbound TXUX train splitting the signal as it holds the main, rolling 125 cars of Wyoming black diamonds to Texas.

Title:  Mission accomplished.

Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  We were coming back from Rogers last week, and had turned south on Ark 59 for the last leg to home, when I saw a train sitting, waiting for a meet. I swung around onto Lake Frances Rd, and checked out the situation. The home signal for the south end of the siding lit just as I crossed the tracks, so I set up quickly. Almost immediately this northbound AEPX empty rolled up.

Holding them back
Title:  Holding them back
Description:  The DPU on the rear of the grain train is a pair of KCSM GEs, going into dynamic braking to hold back the 100 loaded cars as they roll downhill to Watts. The coal train has cleared town, as we can see by the truck now on the Kenwood St crossing in the distance. Quiet returns to Siloam.

Bare tree
Title:  Bare tree
Description:  One of he reasons I like this spot is that its good for a southbound almost alll the time, and there is that big tree in the adjacent field that makes a good photo prop. Now if I could just get the horses to come over when theres a train...maybe I need some of JJ Youngs inflatable cows.
