Album Info:Located in noorthwestern Oregon, the Willamette Valley is a center of population, commerce, and trade. Spanning from Eugene in the south to Portland in the north, the valley is traversed by the Willamette River. The valley is also home to busy railroading action. Union Pacific's Brooklyn Subdivision runs the length of the valley, connecting with the Cascade Sub in the south, and the BNSf Fallbridge Subdivision in the north. Connections also link trains to the Columbia River Gorge to the east, and various shortline railroads throughout the valley. All Union Pacific trains between Washington and the southwest (California, Arizona, etc.) must pass through this valley. In addition to the freight traffic, Amtrak's Coast Starlight traverses the valley on its Seattle-Los Angeles run, and select Amtrak Cascades services continue south from Portland to Eugene.

Eugene Yard Job
Title:  Eugene Yard Job
Description:  Two Union Pacific SD40s shuffle cars in the yard at Eugene. The two engines, UP 1760 and 1751, are SD40Ns, built as SD40-2s in 1972 and 1980 respectively. In the early 2010s, both units were rebuilt by Union Pacific as SD40Ns, and are now used on local and yard jobs. Today, they are shoving a cut of wood chip cars at the south end of the Eugene Yard.

Description:  Two GP38-2s idle at Union Pacifics Eugene Yard. The Geeps are ex-Southern Pacific engines, originally numbered 4840 and 4844 respectively. The two units are both equipped with snow-fighting equipment, including icicle breakers and all-weather windows. After the UP merger, the two units have spent most the last 25 years on the west coast, mostly in the states of Oregon and California.

SD70Ms Idle In The Yard
Title:  SD70Ms Idle In The Yard
Description:  Two members of Union Pacifics SD70M fleet idle in the middle of the Eugene Yard. UP famously ordered 1000 of these 4300 horsepower brutes in early 2000. Construction would begin at three locations contracted by EMD in the US, Canada, and Mexico. The 1000 unit order was later expanded, with around 400 additional engiens being constructed. Added to the total roster were the 25 ex-Southern Pacific units built in the mid 1990s. This would bring the total number of UP SD70Ms to 1,452 units, numbered 3779-5231.

Title:  General Electric DPs
Description:  A pair of DPUs are tacked onto the end of a northbound manifest freight waiting to depart Eugene. Union Pacific 7464 was built in 2009 as an ES44AC (UP designation C45ACCTE). The other unit, 8241, was built in late 2014 as an ES44AC-H, a standard ES44AC with an extra 16,000 pounds of ballast, bringing the total engine weight to 432,000 pounds. Union Pacific classifies this unit as a C45AH (C-truck, 45 to differentiate from AC4400CW, alternating current, heavy)
