Description:  East Altoona. Here is an original photo by Paul Carleton that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 29 August 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6840, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959 after 33 years of faithful service. Tracks of the Westbound Classification Yard pass under the 17th Street Bridge at this point.

Description:  East Altoona. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 February 1960. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4644, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1943, and retired in February of 1960 after 37 years of faithful service. Note that the letters of the word "Pennsylvania" on the tender have been painted over. Produced and distributed by Charly's Slides.

Description:  East Altoona. Here is an image of a photo by Mike Zollitsch that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1964. At the right is the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Roundhouse. This structure was completed in 1903 and was billed as "The World's Largest Roundhouse." To the left of it are the former Westbound Locomotive Ready Tracks, now inhabited by numerous deadlined diesels. In the distance is the East Altoona Coaling Tipple.
