BNSF 1560
Title:  BNSF 1560
Description:  BNSF 1560 in local sort duty - and it seems a new little yard girl that we havent got on sensor before now.

BNSF 4480
Title:  BNSF 4480
Description:  BNSF 4480 at second pulling position of the lead pair on this line of covered hoppers held up below the 39th Street bridge - and I while I have a better picture of the power, I thought this one had more local character and interest. (Oh, I think in my previous entry I was supposed to list all the positions this series was taken from: under the western end of the 39th Street Over-Pass, on the northeast BNSF spur road off to the north of the 39th Street Over Pass, and the blackberry bushes on the Lake Shore/Fruit Valley Road over-pass, with the early introductory shot from the west side of the bridge (where you can see the empty double stack snake away)... that should cover the major vantage points - just in case you wanted to put the dot on the local maps to replicate the shots... oh, and I guess I prowled around the top of the 39th Street Over Pass some, but, honestly, the wind up there is just nasty-cold, so I dont hang around long up there.)

BNSF 5890
Title:  BNSF 5890
Description:  BNSF 5890 leading a northbound oil can through the parking lot of various trains - and since I mentioned the under-the-over-pass position, heres the view to the southeast... a nice place to be during the rain, although the wind makes it so you often have to stand out in the open to stay dry (if that makes sense, since the rain is falling semi-horizontal not straight down).

BNSF 6197
Title:  BNSF 6197
Description:  BNSF 6197 placing second slot at the front of the fast-freight unit train of oil pipeline on rails with fake sun lighting up the clouds behind her... I resisted the urge to paint in a happy little smiling face sun - when it appears in the "Visit Vancouver" brochure, though, Im sure theyll have it in there along with a blue-sky wash (which if you havent seen the new Anthropics Landscape Pro software, its a little scary... check it out, they have a free demo and its just wrong. Super fun to play with, but you feel all dirty after using it (by the way, I was one of the original members of "Found View" long ago when there was a huge ("Yuge!") dust-up over "But its not *real*!" with the appearance of digital cameras for the masses and when "Photoshopped" was actually a dirty word (which is why I use PaintShop... well, actually because Im a cheap ___... but still.)

BNSF 6370
Title:  BNSF 6370
Description:  BNSF 6370 pusher behind a northbound line of covered hoppers paused in the new-old passing lane along Fruit Valley Road... and come to find out, not all covered hoppers through here are empties on the return-trip back to the northern route to our breadbasket... apparently we get a fair number of soybean trains running through here headed to Canada/"The Other" Vancouver (BC).

BNSF 6975 with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Title:  BNSF 6975 with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Description:  BNSF 6975 lead on empty double-stack well-car duo still held up with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 now visible in the north yard ladder having pulled their mixed freight through... the oilcan is actually still rumbling under foot in this snap because I got over here quicker than usual and the idle is more calm than normal... so the CREX shot above actually happens in another few seconds (chronological? Whats that? Oh - it has "logical" in the word. Nope, dont know nuthin bout that.)

BNSF 7678
Title:  BNSF 7678
Description:  BNSF 7678 in second... and unless youre the lead elephant, the scenery never changes - currently northbound with chain of covered hoppers dripping to the rear.

BNSF 8046
Title:  BNSF 8046
Description:  BNSF 8046, at the front of a northbound duo with more covered hoppers, stopped nearly under the 39th Street over-pass in a close-stack directly on the tail of the northbound line of empty double-stack cars a hundred yards off her nose (BNSF 6975 group). (And with all the flipping/changing views, you get the idea I popped back-and-forth between several locations this particular morning, but when editing images, I work through them by how they first appear on sensor, even if they appear later - then the chosen shot is out of time sequence... unless you count the very FIRST appearance... well, unless Im trying to complete an entire train before moving on or an organizing view, or if youre still reading, "Gosh, its really sort of a random mish-mash depending on how little room I have in my short term memory in an effort to edit only one shot of each unit for posting, so whatever works as I bounce between CompuPic, PaintShopPro(4.1!), and this text file." There - Ive listed everything - *Now* can I deduct it from taxes?)

BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 with BNSF 6975
Title:  BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 with BNSF 6975
Description:  BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 at the front of that line of northbound covered hoppers with BNSF 6975 holding in the new passing/by-pass lane at the north end of the north ladder yard on well-car return duty - and it appears everyone is in "Hurry Up and Wait" mode. As a side note: "Yes, it is as wet, cold, and miserable and it looks. With wind."

CREX 1429
Title:  CREX 1429
Description:  CREX 1429 pusher on the oil can coasting north as she passes under the 39th Street Over Pass (just off her nose you can see the sloping road on the northeast side of the bridge where I take more pictures from as it provides access to the north yard). Speaking of oddities - sometimes (rarely) if they have a yellow or red, and you leave the car running, you can snap this picture, then...

CREX 1429
Title:  CREX 1429
Description:  CREX 1429 as she leaves the north yard area to begin the curve along Vancouver Lake headed up toward the Felida Crossing north of here (taken from the Lake Shore - Fruit Valley Road over-pass... and extremely rare that theres absolutely no traffic (automobile) to get in your way because it has to be completely clear between the previous shot and this one to make your way between the two - *and* definitely a coasting consist thats slowing down / idling north, not set to Run.)

UP 5546 - UP 9042 BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Title:  UP 5546 - UP 9042 BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Description:  UP 5546 enters the mess a half hour later... catching you up to speed... starting at the left, stopped in the old-new passing lane is the northbound covered hopper train ( BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 ), while UP 5546 - UP 9042 sound bound mixed freight charges hard into the mix, angry exhaust is from an unknown/unimaged coal-drag lead pair behind the red on the main line, while the northbound mixed freight "crew change" (in the Vanc Misc folder: BNSF 8160 - NS 9909 - BNSF 5965) is stopped in the wiggle onto the main choking down everything else (Im presuming crew change had to happen north of the yard (curving out of the frame to the port side / east of the approaching UP) because there was no way to get through the stopped northbound double-stack and northbound covered hopper group piled up all on the new by-pass tracks) - the tailend of the triple-header northbound mixed freight visible to the right of the frame, then comes the empty line of well-car duo BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 stuffed out at the end (light visible from BNSF 60). And I think that does it.

UP 9042
Title:  UP 9042
Description:  UP 9042 in second place with southbound mixed freight leaving the Vancouver area in a few moments when she gets around the corner and steps onto the Columbia River bridge. (And I think that does it for the eve of Christmas eve... dang, talk about confusing for an old guy having jumped back and forth for an hour or more through various spots around the north ladder yard.)

UP 7524
Title:  UP 7524
Description:  UP 7524, lone pusher on northbound double stack trying to sneak by as we were headed up the hill to church - where we dodged off and behind some homes on a side road to catch the last visible train in whats left of the supposed light of 2016... I guess not too bad for the new little Sony pocket snapper in a panning shot in the dark in an attempt to zoom down the hill and across the width of the north ladder yard. Happy New Year, everyone.

Title:  BNSF 6111 - CSX 7785 - CSX 7727 auto-rack on hold being passed (in reverse) by BNSF 2339
Description:  BNSF 6111 - CSX 7785 - CSX 7727 auto-rack on hold being passed (in reverse) by BNSF 2339 working the yard in Vancouver. New Year, new rumor? Does this mean CP couldve buy/merge the CSX group, so maybe Warren will? Sorry - Im still not giving up my BnsF (the NS being an obvious and easily integrated set of initials) rumor... although broken record has nothing on me.

CREX 1333 - BNSF 3186
Title:  CREX 1333 - BNSF 3186
Description:  CREX 1333 - BNSF 3186 last pair of the four at the front of a northbound mixed freight - just because Im always in awe of just how huge those 4400s really are - yet as they trundle past on crossings and in the distance, you never get a chance to slow down and really take a good hard look at the monsters - so nuzzled nose-to-nose with a Geep just has to tickle something inside. (Too bad the grand designer ordered crap lighting for the day... eh, I guess its not raining, even if it is dark and miserable.)

CSX 7727
Title:  CSX 7727
Description:  CSX 7727 butt-to-the-south in last place of three, but still in the money, with southbound autorack set. Sorry for the extraneously generous lower third of the frame crop, but bumpers never get their due, so had to include one just for kicks to start the year off right.

CSX 7785
Title:  CSX 7785
Description:  CSX 7785 middle of three at the front of an autorack ready to head south through Vancouver - and itd be a pity if CSX is bought out/merged before she can issue Chessie heritage engines (I know - Ive violated sacred oaths, since heritage should be B&O, C&O, WM, etc. - but there was something about the yellow Chessie scheme that was just neat to see - not to mention, retaining the registries was neat so you could believe, vaguely, the B&O et al still existed. (What do you mean Im just a ray of sunshine at parties? (That would entail me being invited to one in the first place. Go figure.)))

(Not to mention, this is the head/front end of this discussion... it only seems like the cold numbs the... that thing... on top your head... dang, knew I shouldve worn a hat.)) line of covered hoppers - which apparently could be empties, soybean, or potentially wheat (last less likely as United Grain export terminal is a few miles to the rear of this consist).

BNSF 5057
Title:  BNSF 5057
Description:  BNSF 5057 second from the end on pusher detail awaiting a clear, or a crew, or the sun to finish rising - after a month of little or no sun, Id figure just about everyone and everything around these parts is sort of taking it slow for a few minutes of bright-light joy.

BNSF 7164 - BNSF 5057
Title:  BNSF 7164 - BNSF 5057
Description:  BNSF 7164 - BNSF 5057 DPU at the rear of a northbound line of covered hoppers as the sun crests the hill behind us... that glowing orange-yellow thing that makes the day seem warmer than it really is - especially as we had doubts about the existence of that thing called sun - although wed heard rumors for the past month or so, but to actually observe it first hand was rather remarkable. (I believe the steam is from our local propane/natural gas electricity generating plant on Lower River Road - turns out, we cant get everything from the dams and hydroelectric, but not for lack of trying... at least when theres not discussion about breaching the dams so the fish can migrate easier.)

BNSF 798
Title:  BNSF 798
Description:  BNSF 798 in at second place leading a mile of covered hoppers north... at least as soon as a semi-clear signal lets them out of their passing line hold on this particular cold morning.

BNSF 8048
Title:  BNSF 8048
Description:  BNSF 8048 in the second pulling position at the front of a northbound string of covered hoppers in the by-pass lane, just to demonstrate the distance back from the signal this consist stopped... because even the lead engine is a little south of the typical number two unit stopping point during rain, clouds, and miserable weather - but Im sure its an optical illusion... about like my mental hang-up in not going to the other side of the over-pass to snap the picture, because for two at the front theyre always on the north side of the over-pass. (Always... Except on sun days.) (Dang - now I cant get the stupid song out of my head... "but never on a...")

BNSF 9261
Title:  BNSF 9261
Description:  BNSF 9261 at the front of another covered hopper dynamic duo, this one held up on the new by-pass lane... which I guess would mean soybean in the hoppers? Headed to Canada if I heard the rumors right... and is it me, or did he pull up short just to keep the cab in the sun? Im sure its just my imagination... giving a bit of a buffer before the signal... thats it.

Title:  BNSF 513-(?) - UP 3849(?)- BNSF 708 - BNSF 1828 - BNSF 1406
Description:  BNSF 513-(?) - UP 3849(?)- BNSF 708 - BNSF 1828 - BNSF 1406 in a cool color combination where unfortunately I was two minutes too late packing the new camera (meaning clarity of image optional! Nope - still not making progress with this darn Sony poor-excuse-for-a-camera... if anyone from Sony would like to contact me, Id be happy to discuss things and let them prove to me Im doing something wrong - because my partially broken Canon SX260 is still out-shooting the Sony hands down for image quality). Power shuffle headed north and away from the lens... sniff.

Title:  BNSF 1599 - BNSF 2925
Description:  BNSF 1599 - BNSF 2925 local yard pair in the north ladder yard sitting under the setting sun amidst the snow... which will end up being only a taste of total snow fall for January, while the local PNWR continues to quickly trundle forward approaching the 39th Street over-pass and my side of the bridge.

PNWR 2306 - PNWR 2317 - PNWR 2314
Title:  PNWR 2306 - PNWR 2317 - PNWR 2314
Description:  PNWR 2306 - PNWR 2317 - PNWR 2314 local trio from the sunny south making their way past the middle ladder yard of Vancouver Center to reach the northern end where theyll snag the local mixed freight and return to Portland. (for the photographically inclined - "Yes, the vertical crop looks aesthetically much more pleasing." - but I wanted all three units in the frame... and having no time to run across a hazardous road in this weather crud, well, "You get what you get, and you dont throw a fit.")
