Long ride done
Title:  Long ride done
Description:  A train from Jamaica has completed the 100 mile trip from Jamaica, now arriving at the farthest east place on the LIRR behind a pair of just delivered GP 38s in their original paint scheme. Most of the riders have detrained in the Hamptons, but a few hardy souls made the full run to weekend here at the end of the island.

New platform
Title:  New platform
Description:  One of the improvements Long Island made in the mid 80s was to erect high level platforms at all stations. While this provided access for those in wheelchairs, it also detracted from the historic views of the stations. Here we see the new platform that was just installed at Smithtown as a westbound led by 270 makes its stop as an eastbound, pushed by 274, heads for Port Jefferson

Montauk train
Title:  Montauk train
Description:  A Montauk train-evidenced by the parlor cars behind the power-rolls through New Hyde Park. A westbound train of M 1's has just made its stop and is headed toward Jamaica. Another headlight can be seen in the distance beyond the MU's, just popping over the top of the hill at Floral Park.

Montauk Manor
Title:  Montauk Manor
Description:  Dad would spend a week most years at Montauk out on the east end of Long Island. On one trip in the mid 80s-a guess, theres no date on the slide mount, but the paint scheme on the passenger car would bear that out-he shot a LIRR GP38-2 under the big hotel on the bluff, \Montauk Manor, which appears to be undergoing some work

Not too many beachgoers today
Title:  Not too many beachgoers today
Description:  There are not likely too many beachgoers today on east end train 4012 due to the cloudy weather. It still has its full complement of coaches and parlors to take the weekenders back to New York tomorrow morning on its return.

Ronkonkoma train past the signals
Title:  Ronkonkoma train past the signals
Description:  There are signals at the west end of the Floral Park station that govern moves through a crossover between there and Bellerose. A Ronkonkoma train passes them on the main, jumping out from behind the westbound board.

Title:  Taking the switch
Description:  A freshly painted 274 rolls through the plant at Nassau, taking the switch leading to the Oyster Bay branch as it starts its slow trip to Oyster Bay. Note the ACI label-looks clean.

Red eye

Description:  An Oyster Bay train pauses for its riders at East Williston before rolling on to Mineola and Jamaica. The markers on the GP 38 pushing the train really stand out in the darkness.

Double down to Port Jeff
Title:  Double down to Port Jeff
Description:  This Port Jefferson train has a pair of GP 38-2s rolling it west as it makes its stop at Mineola. There were a number of trains that ran with pairs of units, rather than just the one that powered most trains. Usually they were the heavier trains-some runs had 14 or 15 cars-and the parlor heavy Montauk trains.

LIRR 259
Title:  LIRR 259
Description:  Some units seem to follow me around, although admittedly on a small(383 route miles, almost all on the same island) its hard not to see the same power over and over. This is the second shot of 259 and 274 together, this time at Mineola on a Montauk train
