PRR 8614, AS-24M, 1965
Title:  PRR 8614, AS-24M, 1965
Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866, #9852-B, and #9860 are EFP-15's built in 1952. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in 1950. They are threading the 14th Street interlocking on their way up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route with a 95-car iron-ore train. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible (L to R) are the Altoona Passenger Station, the 12th Street Bridge, a westbound passenger train about to depart, an eastbound passenger train in the process of departing, and several of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings. This photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge.

PRR 9866, EFP-15, 1966
Title:  PRR 9866, EFP-15, 1966
Description:  Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken near Lewistown, Pennsylvania, in the Spring of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9866 and an "EF" Class B-unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9566 was constructed in August of 1952. In this context, this A-B set is pulling a string of "Yellow Ball" 100-ton capacity hoppers back to Western Pennsylvania's coal mines.
